Eating disorders may manifest themselves in many different ways. Some people restrict their food intake, some binge on large amounts of food and then purge, some compulsively overeat, and some just feel “out of control” in their eating. We believe that there are similar emotional issues that underly these disorders, and thus the group is open to anyone who is struggling with a preoccupation with eating and/or weight.
This group is only for people who themselves have eating disorders or food and weight preoccupations, and who are 17 years of age or older. Accompanying family members or friends are welcome to wait outside of the group meeting in the lobby.
We receive many requests from mental health providers to observe the group. The facilitators would be happy to talk with you about how the group is managed, but we do not allow direct observations of the group.
The Friends and Family Support Group meets at the University Presbyterian Church: 4540 15th Ave NE, on Mondays at 7 pm.
